1. Balance check limit
Now, through UPI apps, you will be able to check your bank account balance only a maximum of 50 times in a day. This limit will apply per app. That is, if you have two apps, then you can check the balance 100 times from both combined. Those who have a habit of checking their balance repeatedly may have trouble with this.

2. List Account API Limit
Now every user can view the details of their linked bank account (through List Account API) only 25 times from each app. Repeated requests to show the account list used to put unnecessary load on the bank system, which is why this limit has been imposed now.
3. New time slot for autopay transactions
All UPI autopays (such as subscription, EMI, and bill payments) will now be processed only in non-peak hours (outside peak hours). Also, only 4 times (1 original + 3 retries) will be processed for every autopay request. Its purpose is to reduce the load on the server and reduce transaction failures.
4. Inactive UPI ID will be deactivated
If your UPI ID has not in used for the last 12 months, it will be automatically disabled. The reason for this is that mobile numbers are often reassigned, so this is a necessary step to protect the old number.
5. Bank account linking verification stricter
Now, while adding a new bank account in UPI, a more stringent verification and user authentication process will be adopted so that security can be further increased.
6. API response time reduced
Now the response time of any important transaction API in the UPI system should be within 10 seconds; earlier, it was 30 seconds. This will make real-time transactions faster and smoother.

The related rules will come into effect from August, and after August 31, 2025, you can also make a payment or withdraw money from the pre-approved credit line received from the bank or NBFC through UPI. This will be easy for those users who need overdraft funds.
The main objective of all this is
- To control the increasing load on the server,
- To make UPI payments more secure,
- To reduce the cases of transaction failure and slow down,
- To improve the experience of both the public and the banks with new technology.
Important warning
If these rules are not followed, then strict action like an API ban or, penalty can be taken against the apps or the bank. Therefore, UPI users should plan their transactions keeping in mind the new rules, especially shopkeepers, freelancers, and those who make regular payments.
